Description of Work Unit
The Department of Health and Exercise Science (HES) is one of eight academic programs in the College of Health and Human Sciences. Colorado State University is Colorado’s land grant institution and holds the Doctoral/Research University – Extensive classification from the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education. Health and Exercise Science is focused on a three-part mission of undergraduate and graduate teaching, research and scholarly work and outreach/engagement/service. We are committed to our goal of producing nationally and internationally recognized research programs and graduates that are focused on helping people protect and improve their health and quality of life throughout the lifespan. The Department has ~1150 undergraduate majors, 30-35 M.S. and Ph.D. students, 10-12 academic and research staff and 25 faculty members. Faculty in the Department of Health and Exercise Science have a strong commitment to high-quality teaching and advising and conduct innovative research with an emphasis on basic, translational, and clinical work to prevent aging-related disease and disability and maximize human functional performance. The Human Performance Clinical Research Laboratory, the research hub for HES, is a CSU Program of Research and Scholarly Excellence and a center for interdisciplinary research, training, and outreach. HES also has a strong focus on community engagement, including a First Responder Heart Disease Prevention Program, Adult Fitness Program, Noon Hour Fitness Program, Youth Sports Camps and an After-School program.
Position Summary
The department of Health and Exercise Science (HES) seeks applications throughout the year from individuals who are interested in obtaining potential Post-doctoral Fellowship opportunities in our labs. 
 
In addition to compliance with all safety, operational, regulatory compliance, and ethics training and procedures associated with NIH, CSU, the Human Performance and Clinical Research Laboratory (HPCRL), the following is a list of key responsibilities for the Fellow: 
 
1. Recruitment and screening of human subjects for funded projects 
 
2. Coordination with other lab personnel 
 a. May include supervisory responsibilities for undergraduate and graduate researchers 
 
3. Analysis/documentation of analyses of samples in line with the proposed aims/approach for the funded projects 
 
4. Preparation of manuscripts 
 
5. Development of new/follow-on hypotheses stemming from other studies 
 
6. Method development to address new hypotheses as necessary 
 
7. Proposal development of post-doctoral and mentored research grants 
 
8. Attendance at routine meetings with lab principal investigators (PIs), laboratory meetings, departmental seminars, and regional/national conferences as appropriate
Required Job Qualifications
1. Ph.D. or documentation of completion of Ph.D. requirements in related field by the position start date 
 
2. Relevant research experience in related field
Preferred Job Qualifications
1. Authored or co-authored peer-reviewed manuscripts 
 
2. Experience in multiple research models 
 
3. Evidence of successful student mentoring in research environment 
 
4. Enthusiasm to work in a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment
