Postdoctoral Research Associate

 

The Global Computing Lab (GCLab), in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Tennessee has an open position for a Postdoctoral Research Associate. The GCLab, headed by Dr. Michela Taufer, focuses on various aspects of high-performance computing (HPC) and its application to the sciences. GCLab engages in the design and testing of efficient computational algorithms and adaptive scheduling policies for scientific computing on GPUs, cloud computing, and volunteer computing. RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

This position will be leading research projects in the field of high-performance computer, with focus on reproducibility, performance analysis, and optimizations. The proposed work will involve leading the design and implementation of software solutions for HPC systems, including performance measurement and non-determinism characterization for a set of scientific applications. Duties involve  conducting experiments and optimization, data check and analysis, and project management (e.g., timetabling and meeting project milestones).

 

The Postdoctoral Research Assistant Position will provide preliminary results and write discussion of concepts for submission to granting agencies and foundation and also assist in the preparation of manuscripts to publish research results in peer-reviewed technical journals and conference proceedings.

 



Qualifications

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

A PhD in computer science, computational sciences, or mathematics is preferred. Knowledge required includes proficiency with parallel programming (e.g., MPI and OpenMP), proficiency in programming with C, C++, and Python, understanding of HPC systems, and experience with tools for permanence measurements.

 

Background in at least one of the following areas is preferred: high performance computing, parallel and distributed computing, machine learning, or data analytics. 

 

The successful candidate will possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving and communication skills, including the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and manage time appropriately. The candidate will work both independently and as part of a team and should be a self-starter with the ability to manage multiple projects and activities, while conducting individual research and disseminating results.

 

The candidate must be able to work and communicate effectively with faculty, research assistants / associates, administrative assistants, students and other GCLab personnel. 


SALARY AND BENEFITS:

EFFECTIVE DATE:

 

The preferred start date is January 1, 2024, but this is negotiable.
