Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Research Group of Prof. Joseph Clark

Regular, Full-time, exempt (monthly)

 

 

The Position: The position of a Postdoctoral Research Associate is open in the research group of Prof. Joseph Clark in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.  The researcher will work in the field of organic synthesis and the synthesis of labeled molecules.  All candidates must have successfully defended and submitted their dissertation before their employment date.  The search starts immediately and continues until the position is filled.  The Clark Lab investigates the development of new reactions for the precision labeling of small molecules.  Central to the research program is utilizing transition metal catalysis to effect the desired transformations.  The goal of the research is to facilitate discoveries in deuterated small molecule drug development along with providing better access to labeled small molecule drugs used to study metabolic processes.  Please see more details about the research group at theclarklab.com.

 

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

·       The Clark Group focuses on organic synthesis and development of novel transition metal catalyzed reactions.

·       The ideal postdoctoral research associate candidate will work on assigned research projects as well as actively mentor graduate and undergraduate researchers in the laboratory. They will also participate in the preparation of manuscripts and grant applications. All researchers are expected to regularly attend group meetings. They are also expected to be using safe laboratory practices at all times.

·       The postdoctoral research associate candidate must be knowledgeable and experienced in in the field of Organic Chemistry, especially organic synthesis and/or transition metal catalyzed reactions.

·       They will be responsible for presenting and reporting research results and publishing scientific results in peer reviewed journals in a timely manner. They are also expected to keep a properly maintained scientific notebook for record keeping and reaction reproducibility purposes.

·       Ensure compliance with environment, safety, health and quality program requirements.

·       Maintain strong commitment to the implementation and perpetuation of values and ethics.

Qualifications

 

Requirements: Must have successfully defended and submitted dissertation by hire date, Ph.D. in chemistry or chemical biology

·       An excellent track record of productive and creative research demonstrated by publications in peer reviewed journals.

·       The postdoctoral candidate must have strong verbal and writing skills. The candidate must be willing to work independently and collaboratively with group members, and preferably also with experimental collaborators. The candidate must also be willing to mentor the graduate students in the group from time to time.

·       Motivated and safety conscious.

·       Ability to set priorities, multi-task and adapt to ever changing needs with the proven ability to function well in a fast-paced environment.

 

 

Salary:  The salary for this position is commensurate with experience and other qualifications.  This is a regular, full-time, 12-month, non-tenure track staff position.  The appointment begins August 1, 2024 and will continue until July 31, 2025.
