Post-Doctoral Research Associate- Civil & Environmental Engineering - 240000009J

Description

Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Researcher to join our interdisciplinary team dedicated to advancing the field of water and wastewater infrastructure through the development and application of high-fidelity numerical simulation techniques. The successful candidate will work on cutting-edge research projects aimed at solving complex fluid dynamics problems related to water supply, treatment processes, and wastewater management systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and implement advanced numerical simulation models to analyze and optimize the performance of water and wastewater infrastructure, including but not limited to pipelines, treatment facilities, and stormwater systems. Conduct high-fidelity computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations to study flow patterns, contaminant transport, and treatment processes within water and wastewater systems. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, hydrologists, and environmental scientists to integrate simulation results with experimental and field data. Apply machine learning and data analytics techniques to improve model predictions and identify key parameters influencing system performance. Publish findings in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and present at international conferences. Assist in the development of proposals to secure funding from government agencies, industry partners, and other sources.

Mentor graduate and undergraduate students involved in research projects

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

PhD in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computational Science, or a related field, with a focus on fluid mechanics, numerical methods, or environmental modeling. Strong background in numerical simulation and computational fluid dynamics (CFD), with demonstrated experience NEK5000, OpenFOAM, or equivalent. Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python, C++) for model development and data analysis. Familiarity with the principles of water and wastewater treatment processes and infrastructure design. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Proven track record of scientific publications and presentations in relevant fields.

Desirable Skills:

Experience with parallel computing and high-performance computing (HPC) environments.

Knowledge of machine learning and data analytics techniques applied to environmental systems. Understanding of experimental methods in fluid dynamics and the ability to integrate experimental data with numerical models.

Terms of Employment:

This is a full-time, fixed-term position for 2 years, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and availability of funding. The position offers a competitive salary and benefits package, including health insurance and retirement plans. The successful candidate will have access to state-of-the-art computational facilities and laboratory equipment.Opportunities for professional development, including attending workshops, training, and conferences.
