Position Description
Advertised Job Summary | Under general supervision of the Principal Investigator, this individual will assist in conducting research on supported bimetallic nanoclusters as models systems for understanding and developing commercial heterogeneous catalysts. The duties of the position are to: (1) operate and maintain an ultrahigh vacuum chamber in which surface science experiments will be conducted; (2) analyze and interpret data; (3) prepare written progress reports related to research and contribute to scholarly works acceptable for presentation or publication; (4) interact and coordinate efforts with undergraduate and graduate students in the same research group; and (5) contribute to developing grant proposals. |

Minimum Qualifications | Ph.D. by the start date of employment (ABDs may be considered) in materials science or a related field with expertise in surface science. This expertise could have been gained during the normal course of a doctoral degree program. |
Preferred Qualifications | Expertise with ultrahigh vacuum surface science techniques. |
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities | Expertise in operating and maintaining ultrahigh vacuum chambers, expertise with carrying out scanning tunneling microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy experiments, ability to analyze and interpret data from the experiments above, ability to prepare written and oral reports to summarize experimental results. |
