Job Description Summary:
A Postdoctoral Fellow position is immediately available for a highly motivated individual. The applicant must have a PhD in biology/biochemistry or related fields. Applicant is preferred to have experience in small animal handling, mouse tumor models, and molecular biology and cell biology. Experience with RNA sequencing, HPLC or UPLC is preferred.
Research in the recruiting laboratory focuses on examining the therapeutic roles and pharmacokinetic behaviors of small molecules with anti-cancer activities and to understand their mechanism of actions, by using animal models, cellular/molecular biological tools, and analytical biochemistry.
The Postdoc Fellow will be conceptually involved in experimental design, be responsible for day-to-day performance of the research project, data generation, analysis, and preparation for publications. The Postdoc Fellow will work independently and under the supervision of the PI. The position will also be responsible for keeping experimental records and animal records.
The research is housed in modern laboratory space with state-of-the-art equipment and will build on a long history of innovative service to the KUMC research community.
Job Description:

Required Qualifications:

Education: PhD in biology/biochemistry, or related field.

Work Experience:

  • Experience working in a molecular biology research laboratory.

  • Experience in cell culture

  • Experience in mouse handling

Preferred Qualifications:

Work Experience:

  • Experience in mouse tumor xenografts development, and in studying the efficacy of experimental drugs in mouse xenograft models is preferred.

  • Experience in mouse gavage, mouse tail vein injection and intraperitoneal injection is preferred.

  • Experience in HPLC or analytical biochemistry is preferred.

  • Experience in RNA sequencing and data analysis is preferred.

  • Training and experience in histology is preferred.

Skills:

  • Strong written and oral communications skills when interact with the scientific community.

  • Ability to work on a team and independently.

  • Strong analytical and trouble-shooting skills.

Job Duties Outlined:

Perform general research experiments under the direction of the PI, including but not limited to:

  • Execute cell culture and cell-based assays, including but not limited to assays in cell viability/death, proliferation, migration, etc.

  • Perform various research techniques on mice and performing animal maintenance, including but not limited to tumor xenografts implantation, intraperitoneal/tail vein injection, oral gavage, small animal surgery, necropsy, etc.

  • Complete biochemical assays, including but not limited to DNA, RNA, and protein assays.

  • Conduct histology analysis.

  • Utilize HPLC/UPLC to detect small molecules using blood, urine, or other biological samples.

  • Maintain the lab supplies and perform general lab maintenance.

  • Participate in regular communication with the PI via lab meetings and personal meetings.

  • Generate, document, and analyze data, and prepare abstract/poster/manuscript for conferences and published papers, as well as assistance on grant submissions and other documentation necessary for laboratory compliance.

  • Follow established quality control and quality assurance policies and procedures, including appropriate documentation.

  • Other job duties as assigned per the needs of research projects.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
