    Additional Posting Information

The ideal postdoctoral candidate has a PhD and expertise in RNA bioinformatics or computational biology.

The laboratory of Dr. Quentin Vicens in the Department of Biology and Biochemistry in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at the University of Houston https://www.uh.edu/nsm/biology-biochemistry/ and at the Center for Nuclear Receptors and Cell Signaling (CNRCS, https://www.uh.edu/nsm/cnrcs/ ) is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to develop a webserver for RNA secondary structure prediction using evolutionary information. This work will pave the way for three-dimensional structure prediction and is in close collaboration with the lab of Dr. Elena Rivas at Harvard University (http://rivaslab.org/ ).

The postdoctoral scientist will work on developing strategies for integrating tools for automatic recovery of homologous sequences, alignment, evaluation, improvement and validation. The candidate will also develop structural approaches to elucidate the structures of complexes containing proteins and Z-RNA. This position will use programing (Python), web design, and requires some knowledge about sequence alignment. Experience with RNA structure is preferred. The candidate could be based at the University of Houston, but would also have the possibility to work remotely. Also, the postdoctoral scientist would have the opportunity to mentor junior scientists on various aspects of this project. We support applications to postdoctoral fellowships and transition awards.
