Job Title: Post-Doctoral Research Fellow

Job Summary:

The Injury and Violence Prevention Center (IVPC) at the Colorado School of Public Health (CSPH) has an opening for a full-time postdoctoral research fellow position. The successful candidate for this position will have research interests and skills aligned to IVPC faculty. The selected candidate will benefit from and contribute to multiple existing research efforts underway, with co-mentoring from Drs. Ashley Brooks-Russell, PhD, MPH and Erin Wright-Kelly, DrPH, MA. 

Candidates should have interest and experience in one or more of the following content areas:

  • Community violence and interpersonal prevention/intervention
  • Suicide prevention
  • Substance misuse prevention
  • Adolescent suicide, violence, or substance misuse prevention
  • Structural and social determinants of health (including adverse childhood experiences (ACES))
  • Disparities in suicide and violence among U.S. racial/ethnic minority groups
  • Place-based interventions 

Experience with quantitative analysis is desired with experience in areas such as (but not limited to) comparative statistics (chi-square, t-tests, etc.), regression analysis, latent variable methods, longitudinal analysis approaches, GIS approaches, and mixed methods. Individuals with a primary focus on qualitative methods are not a good fit for this position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading quantitative and/or geospatial analyses
  • Submission of manuscripts to scientific journals and conferences
  • Coordination with IVPC faculty, research staff, and students
  • Contribution to grant writing (including their own)
  • Engagement with academic, civic, and community partners

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

 

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.  

  • PhD, DrPH, or other equivalent doctoral degree in public health, epidemiology, social work, nursing, behavioral sciences, psychology, public affairs, or related fields that provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities for this position.
  • Minimum of 2 year(s) experience in relevant research, including published manuscripts (as co-author or first author); may be included in doctoral degree training time.
  • Demonstrated quantitative research skills with programming skills in R, SAS, SPSS, ArcGIS, and/or Tableau. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Evidence of independent research through publications.
  • Experience collaborating in multi-disciplinary teams. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Good organizational skills across individual projects and managing own workload.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a part of a team within a research setting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$56,484 - $63,000

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.

Salary range is commensurate with skills and experience. Generally, the stipend level for the entire first year of support is determined by the number of full years of relevant postdoctoral experience when the award is issued, in line with Kirchstein-NRSA levels. Relevant experience may include research experience (including industrial), teaching assistantship, internship, residency, clinical duties, or other time spent in a health-related field beyond that of the qualifying doctoral degree. The stipend for each additional year of Kirschstein-NRSA support is the next level in the stipend structure and does not change mid-year.
