University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus

Department: Biochemistry & Molecular Genetics

Job Title: Post-Doctoral Fellow

Position: #00806091 – Requisition: #32521

Job Summary:

The laboratory of Dr. Ning Zhao (https://medschool.cuanschutz.edu/biochemistry/people/primary-faculty/zhao-ning ) is located in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics at the University of Colorado-Anschutz Medical Campus in Denver, Colorado. The lab aims to understand how aging and disease-related proteins are regulated in their native intracellular environments. Currently, the lab focuses on studying the translation and folding mechanisms of transmembrane proteins on the endoplasmic reticulum, such as ion channel proteins and cell receptors. We apply diverse approaches in the study, including state-of-art single-molecule tracking as well as traditional biochemistry and biophysics approaches, such as ELISA, western blots, immunofluorescence, immunoprecipitation, circular dichroism, ITC, and DSC. The lab is successful in acquiring external funding and currently is funded by startup funding, NIH K99/R00, and Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

The main focus of this position is studying translation and folding mechanisms using the state-of-art single-molecule tracking approach. Candidates with hands-on single-molecule tracking experience are preferred

Examples of Duties:

  • Generating imaging cell lines
  • Designing and performing imaging experiments
  • Analyzing imaging data, writing and publishing papers
  • Assisting in grant applications

Why Join Us:

Our department conducts research across a wide biological scale for fundamental scientific understanding with applications to many disease contexts. The overarching goal is to reach a level of molecular insight that helps develop therapeutic approaches to disease.

As biochemists and molecular geneticists, we are amid an unprecedented time of discovery - our conception of the molecular biology of cells is going from the equivalent of grainy black-and-white to high-resolution technicolor. From deciphering the choreography of transcription complexes, chromosomes, and RNA molecules within cells to developing novel approaches to 3D molecular structure determination to understanding how viruses hijack a cell’s machinery and alter its metabolome, the researchers in Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics (BMG) are at the forefronts of their fields both conceptually and technologically.

The University of Colorado offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes health insurance, life insurance, retirement plans, tuition benefits, ECO pass, paid time off – vacation, sick, holidays and more.
