Job Description Summary:
The School of Nursing seeks a full-time Improving Dementia Care Post-Doctoral Fellow. The position will join Kristine N. The Improving Dementia Care Postdoctoral Fellow will become an active member of our multidisciplinary and multisite team working on multiple NIH-funded studies developing and testing interventions to improve dementia care.
The IDCPDF will be primarily involved in our team’s pragmatic clinical trials testing CHATO, a web-based communication training program for nursing home staff, effects on behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia and inappropriate use of psychoactive medication. We anticipate a funding for a new project adapting and testing CHATO in diverse nursing home staff and resident populations. The IDCPDF will be involved as a working member of the investigative team with guided experience and progressive responsibility for recruitment and coordination of participating nursing homes, procurement and outcome evaluation of Minimum Data Set and Nursing Home Quality data, and assurance and evaluation of intervention implementation. The IDCPDF will contribute to team meetings, clinical trial coordinating, data analysis and interpretation, dissemination of research findings in publications and presentations and development of research proposals.
Additional opportunities include implementation of a clinical caregiver cohort within the University of Kansas Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (KU ADRC), one of 33 NIH funded P30 centers. The post-doc will be supported in developing additional skills, will be integrated in team publications, and will be encouraged to develop a supplemental research project. Postdoctoral fellows will also participate in the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC) postdoctoral scholar group. The initial commitment will be for a one-year period with potential extension for a second year based on outcomes.
