The laboratory of Dr. Salvemini in the Department of Pharmacology and Physiology at Saint Louis University, School of Medicine is looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to join a vibrant highly collaborative and dynamic NIH-funded laboratory that performs cutting edge pain research. The lab interfaces with many of the basic science labs and clinical programs at Saint Louis University to provide a rich experience in the context of translational pain research.

The laboratory integrates behavioral pharmacology, molecular genetics, biochemistry and drug discovery measures to understand molecular pathways involved in the development of neuropathic pain. We are also interested in investigating the interactions between chronic neuropathic pain states and comorbidities, such as cognitive dysfunction, depression and anxiety. The lab has access to the many core facilities at Saint Louis University (www.slu.edu/medicine/research/cores-labs) and to cutting edge medical and biotechnology throughout the St. Louis region. Our basic-science driven approach has led to the identification of several pathways and novel targets that are enabling the development of new pharmacological strategies for therapeutic intervention. Translating our discoveries to the clinic is a key mission of our work.

A position is now open for a postdoctoral fellow to lead and execute major NIH-funded projects related to understanding and targeting neuroinflammatory processes that drive neuropathic pain and its comorbidities. The postdoctoral fellow will also be able to interact with members of multiple departments within the Institute of Translational Neuroscience and the Saint Louis University Drug Discovery and Development Group.

The ideal candidate will have a PhD in neuroscience, immunology, biology or related biomedical science field, have excellent communication skills and possess the ability to work both independently as well as with a multi-departmental collaborators and specialized core facilities.  Experience in animal handling, behavioral testing, cell culture, molecular biology techniques (CRISPR and RNAseq), immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence processing, imaging and analysis, electrophysiology, calcium imaging, and/or flow cytometry are highly desirable.

Saint Louis University School of Medicine is a Catholic Jesuit Institution with a long tradition of excellence in teaching, research and patient care.
