Essential functions (job duties):

Under the direction of a senior investigator, design, execute, analyze, and interpret various laboratory experiments with a focus on current scientific questions in the field of diabetic wound healing, infection and nerve de/regeneration.

Perform laboratory based scientific techniques or clinical/population science (human subjects) research. 

Design and perform experiments, recruit participants for studies by developing surveys and interviewing candidates.

Participate in implementing research objectives, ensuring compliance with all legal, regulatory and protocol guidelines.

 Assist staff with experiments/research protocols as required. Communicate with principal investigator and Postdoctoral scholars/fellows on the status of research.

Collect and log laboratory results, clinical outcomes and/or survey data.  Evaluate and perform data analysis using graphs, charts or tables to highlight the key points of the research results collected in accordance with the research protocols as stipulated. Proofread and edit research data and documents to ensure accuracy.

Maintain the laboratory work areas including routine maintenance on laboratory equipment as required.  Order and organize required research supplies and records.  Maintain cleanliness and organization of workstation.

 Prepare and present presentations regarding research results for professional, scientific, and academic conferences.  Summarize and organize data results for submittal to academic and scholarly, peer-reviewed journals.  Write scientific manuscripts and other documents for publication. Fact-check, proofread, and edit research documents to ensure accuracy.

Perform other related duties as assigned.


Unique duties:

Postdoctoral position in vision research is available in Prof. Fu-Shin Yu’s laboratory to carry out an interdisciplinary project to study the mechanisms underlying defects in wound healing and bacterial infection using mouse models of human type 1 and 2 Diabetes. We are seeking for a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow with experience in molecular and cell biology, and interested in vision research. The research will be focused on evaluation of innate immune defense against ocular bacterial infection, and of their defects in diabetic cells and tissues. This position requires the expertise in cell biology and molecular biology techniques, including PCR, qRT-PCR, Western Blotting, flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy, immunostaining. Prior work experience with small animal surgery would be desired. Successful candidate will be a part of an interdisciplinary team focused on development and pre-clinical evaluation of biologics in treating microbial keratitis, particularly in Diabetic patients.


Qualifications:

Applicant must have PhD and/or MD in biology or related field. The ability to conduct independent scientific investigations is required. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability to work independently.  Ability to analyze, summarize and interpret research findings and data in reports and spreadsheets and communicate results.

Knowledge of scientific integrity

principles. Excellent time management and organization skills. 

 Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to work with others in a collaborative environment.  Microsoft office software skills.
