Job Summary
The Ávila-Lovera lab in the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Utah, UT, seeks a postdoctoral research associate to join a project with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2024.
The Ávila-Lovera lab is interested in understanding the role of stem photosynthesis on physiological performance of desert plants. The main objective of the projecy is to determine the link between stem photosynthesis and drought tolerance by understanding the mechanistic link between stem photosynthesis and both water-use efficiency and hydraulic conductivity. Field work in desert locations in Utah and other nearby states is expected. There is flexibility to drive the project in new and interesting directions. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to mentor undergraduate and graduate students in support of the project.
The salary will be $55,000 per year plus access to health benefits.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will work in collaboration with Dr. Eleinis Ávila-Lovera. Funding is secured for 24 months, with possibility of extension.
The successful candidate must be willing to relocate to the area in order to complete the field work.
Required qualifications: PhD in plant biology, ecology, or similar relevant fields with knowledge of plant ecophysiology. The research involves work in hot and dry conditions during spring and summer. A valid driver’s license will be required.
Preferred qualifications: Experience measuring plant gas exchange and hydraulic conductivity is preferred, but not required.
