Description
Florida International University’s Freshwater Resource Division at the Institute of Environment is seeking to fill a Postdoctoral Associate position to examine the population responses of wetland animals (e.g., fish, crayfish, wading birds) to water level variation and other stressors (e.g., invasions). The 100% research position will require some field work plus new analyses using time series data of animal populations from the freshwater Everglades. Primary projects for publications are not finalized but could include population modeling, predator-prey interactions, studies of invasions or historical reconstructions/ analyses of hydro-patterns and avian responses. Complementary experimental, modeling or observational studies may be possible depending on the specific interests of the successful applicant and other available funds. The selected candidate will be expected to be an interactive member of a large aquatic ecology lab at FIU and will and work closely with Dr. Dorn, the graduate students and technicians. The successful candidate will be minimally expected to take lead authorship publishing from datasets already existing in the lab. The position has funding for two years (salary and faculty benefits0, with annual renewal contingent upon performance. The position is immediately available for a motivated and intellectually curious applicant with proven quantitative, problem-solving, collaborative, and communication (written and oral) skills. Qualifications
A PhD in Ecology, Fisheries, Environmental Science, or a related field will be required at the time of employment. The candidate should broadly be interested in species interactions and population ecology in aquatic systems. Experiences with the analysis of time series datasets and/or freshwater systems are desirable. Ability to start between May 1 and August 1, 2022 is ideal.
