Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Maryland Institute for Applied Environmental Health within the University of Maryland, School of Public Health is seeking a highly motivated individual for the grant funded position of Postdoctoral Fellow. This individual will join a dynamic team committed to working with public health and social justice leaders from academia, community, government and beyond for our NIEHS-funded project, Research Employing Environmental Systems and Occupational Health Policy Analyses to Interrupt the Impact of Structural Racism on Agricultural Workers and Their Respiratory Health
(RESPIRAR). The long‐term goal of RESPIRAR is to unpack the mechanisms through which structural racism shapes respiratory health trends among Black and/or Latinx migrant seasonal farmworkers and to inform the design of policies and best practices for optimizing the living and working conditions and better health protections among these vulnerable workers. Our project advances an innovative combination of environmental exposure analysis, longitudinal legal analysis, system dynamics modeling, and community-based research methods. The multidisciplinary project team convenes academic researchers in environmental health sciences, anthropology, biostatistics, system dynamics and occupational health law working in partnership with el Comité de Apoyo a Los Trabajadores Agricoles (CATA- the Farmworker Support Committee), a community-based advocacy organization.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Devon Payne-Sturges. S/he/they will help lead field activities for all environmental and human sample collection and preparation for laboratory analysis. In addition, the Postdoctoral Associate will aid with research support tasks related to this project such as on-boarding student interns/assistants, preliminary data analyses, manuscript preparation, and will participate in dissemination processes as co-author and conference presenter. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to learn about system dynamics methods and participate in community-based system dynamics (CBSD) workshops with stakeholders as well as opportunities to hone their leadership and grant-writing skills by developing and directing pilot studies leveraging off of the work of RESPIRAR and using the data generated in this work to develop grant proposals.
Salary and appointment date: This is a grant-funded position with 1 year of funding available and a multi-year duration possible, contingent upon satisfactory performance and continued funding. It will be a 12 month non-tenure-track staff position with an annual salary commensurate the applicant’s experience and training. 
Anticipated start date for the position is Late Spring/Early Summer 2023.

Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a doctoral degree (PhD, DrPH, or equivalent) and advanced research experience in public health research or related field (e.g. Environmental Health Sciences, Health Policy and Management, Global Health). In addition to the degree, applicants should have experience in conducting field-based environmental exposure studies, strong quantitative research skills, excellent organizational and communication skills (oral and written), fluency in Spanish (oral and written) and enthusiasm for multidisciplinary research collaborations and passion for social justice.
Special Conditions Required:
Ability to travel to community-based sites for meetings, participant recruitment and data collection activities on Eastern Shore, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Must maintain current CITI training and certification in Biomedical Research.
Preferences:
The ideal candidate will have a combination of skills, experience conducting field and laboratory studies focused on air quality and respiratory health, knowledge of exposure assessment and survey research, and experience using REDcap and performing statistical analyses using standard tools such as STATA and R.
