The department of The Miami Project has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Temporary Post Doctoral Associate to work at UHealth. This position will be in the laboratory of Dr. Matija Milosevic at the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis. The Post Doctoral Associate (N) performs scientific research and studies under the supervision of managing staff. Moreover, the Post Doctoral Associate (N) promotes institutional recognition through literal contributions to the scientific community.

  • Principle duties will involve assisting with human research studies, analyzing experimental data, and publishing research findings.

  • Conduct neuromodulation research focused on electrical stimulation and non-invasive brain stimulation to enhance human motor function after brain and spinal cord injury.

  • Configure and maintain state-of-the-art equipment of a neuromodulation laboratory.

  • Prepare equipment to ensure safe operation and maintain supplies of items for research experiments.

  • Develop protocols and prepare procedure manuals for neuromodulation research using non-invasive brain stimulation.

  • Contribute to a research program and support clinical interventions aimed at developing and testing neuromodulation approaches for brain and spinal cord injury neuromotor recovery.

  • Combine non-invasive brain stimulation with neuromodulation approach using brain-computer interface (BCI), functional electrical stimulation (FES), spinal cord stimulation (SCS), transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to advance neuromotor recovery.

  • Perform assessments to understand neuroplasticity and neuromotor recovery after brain and spinal cord injury.

  • Work with the Principal Investigator and other researcher team members to propose solutions for addressing research questions using state-of-the-art scientific technologies and approaches.

  • Coordinate and manage multiple studies by collaborating with the other laboratory team members.

  • Help with scheduling research participant visits and coordinate recruitment with the research team.

  • Assists with preparing and processing regulatory documents and writing grant reports.

  • Maintain accurate documentation and records of data collected in accordance with the guidelines.

  • Prepare research reports for publication in refereed journals.

  • Contribute to presenting results, writing, and editing materials for publication.

  • Organize data from different experiments, analyze, interpret, and synthesize results using state-of-the-art scientific and statistical methods, and propose conclusions and follow-up investigations.

  • Present research findings in laboratory and department meetings and contribute to discussion

Minimum Requirements

  • MD or Ph.D. in engineering, neuroscience, kinesiology, physical therapy or a related field is required.

  • No prior experience required. Experience in human neuroscience research preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Candidates are required to have a strong scientific publication record.

  • Other required skills include effective time management, strong project management, the ability to communicate clearly and concisely both written and verbally, and the ability to work as part of a team or independently.

  • Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data.

  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
