Description

We seek a postdoctoral researcher to contribute to analysis and interpretation of data collected on spruce grouse in the boreal forest of northern Minnesota. Spruce grouse occur at the edge of their range in Minnesota and are a climate-sensitive species. Spruce grouse genetic samples have been collected from radio-marked birds and from hunter-submitted samples. Laboratory analysis of 10-15 microsatellite loci per individual will be completed ahead of the start date by the University of Minnesota Genomics Center. The post-doctoral researcher will analyze genetic and spatial data to test hypotheses and identify patterns related to landscape-level gene flow, connectivity, and movements. Products resulting from this 1-year position will include 2-3 manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication and participating in project final reports for funding sources and the state natural resource agency. The individual will work closely with individuals at the University of Minnesota and Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. Responsibilities may include: • Conducting a landscape genetics analysis using genetic and spatial data to understand landscape connectivity and movements. • Home range analysis of telemetry homing locations. • Habitat modeling and use of recently acquired LIDAR data. • Assist with other aspects of data analysis on the study. • Assist project personnel with data quality control and organization for future analysis. • Write 2-3 manuscripts for submission to national and international peer-reviewed journals. • Assist with writing project final reports for funding and agency reporting. Qualifications

Required Qualifications: -Ph.D. in Wildlife Ecology, Ecology, Biology, Natural Resources, or a related field. -Experience presenting research findings at professional conferences such as The Wildlife Society, Ecological Society of America, or comparable professional conferences. -Demonstrated experience with R for statistical analysis -Demonstrated experience performing either landscape genetic analysis or home range analysis -Demonstrated experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and spatial analysis -Demonstrated experience writing scientifically for peer-reviewed publication and professional audiences. -Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate data records and notes. -At least 1 peer-reviewed publication, with more publication experience weighted more heavily -A strong work ethic and ability to work collaboratively Preferred Qualifications: -Familiarity with Microchecker, GenAlEx, GenePop, BIMr, Bottleneck, NeEstimator -Experience with Landscape Genetic Analytical Software such as Circuitscape, Geneland, and Structure -Experience with LIDAR derived products and their use -Experience with Program MARK, RMARK, or Unmarked -Experience with Single Species Occupancy Modeling -Experience with Multiple Species Occupancy Modeling -Experience with habitat modeling
