Job Summary: Under the direction of a senior faculty member who serves as a mentor for the postdoctoral appointee, The Postdoctoral Fellow provides for an internship and continuation of scholarly activity and research after achieving the Ph.D. or other doctoral degree.


Additional Department Summary: The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at The University of Alabama is seeking candidates for one or two Postdoctoral positions for an externally funded project under the supervision of Dr. Jaber Abu Qahouq.

Individuals with research interests and experience in the areas of power electronics, controls systems, and battery management systems with applied experience in developing, testing, and demonstrating power electronic systems hardware are highly desired.

Successful candidates will hold a Ph.D. degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or a related field and demonstrate a record of academic achievement in research. The College and/or the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department will establish a series of structured merit-based evaluations. Initial appointments are for one year, with renewal contingent upon demonstration of productivity, meeting project requirements and deadlines, and availability of funding.


Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Electrical or Computer Engineering or a closely related field.

Candidates will need to have completed their Ph.D. or have it completed by the start of employment. Skills and Knowledge: Knowledge in the areas of power electronics, controls systems, and battery management systems with applied experience in developing, testing, and demonstrating power electronic systems hardware.


Preferred Qualifications: Development of power converters each with power levels that exceed 10 kW and/or voltages of up to 1000 V, advanced control of power electronic systems, analog-digital mixed embedded power controllers for power electronic systems, electric vehicles fast chargers, and/or Lithium-Ion battery energy storage systems management and health.
