Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Department of Health Behavior is one of seven departments in the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina. Founded in 1943, the Department develops, and disseminates knowledge and interventions that promotes the health of individuals and communities. The Department’s 25 faculty members have backgrounds in behavioral science, health education, international health, social and cognitive psychology, medicine, medical sociology, and communications, and are united by their commitment to the disciplines of public health together with the social and behavioral sciences.
Position Summary
The Health Cognition and Behavior Lab (HCBL) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) is offering post-doctoral training to 1 candidate on HPV vaccination.
This post-doc will support behavioral science research projects in HPV vaccination and will receive training in interdisciplinary research, as well as career development to enhance professional skills and build professional networks. The position will work closely with an interdisciplinary research team led by Dr. Noel Brewer and join a successful and award-winning cohort of scholars in the HCBL (https://noelbrewer.web.unc.edu/).
Our research uses theories from health and social psychology to understand health behaviors and create high-impact interventions. The HCBL values high-quality research that has public health impact, a fun and collaborative working environment, and efforts to achieve equity. The post-doc will assist with study design, implementation, quantitative statistical analysis, and interpretation and publication of study findings. In addition, they will develop their own research questions related to their fellowship and will receive multidisciplinary training and mentorship from senior researchers at UNC.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Applicants must have a doctoral degree in psychology, health behavior, public health, health communication, or another behavioral science by the time they start the position.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Successful candidates will be required to articulate a strong commitment to conducting research in HPV vaccination and to ultimately obtaining a (career) position that would enable them to actively participate in initiatives aimed at eliminating cancer health disparities.
Due to federally mandated funding restrictions, the Postdoctoral Trainee MUST be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
