The power energy research group at the Daniel Felix Ritchie School of Engineering and Computer Science (ECS) at the University of Denver is seeking highly motivated individuals for a postdoctoral research fellow position. This is a one-year position, renewable for up to three years based on satisfactory performance and availability of funds. The positions start date is January 19, 2023.

Position Summary

Interested applicants will be working on renewable energy, energy storage, big data analytics, power system stability areas with application of learning-based methods. Current research needs include the implementation of deep reinforcement learning to control energy storage and renewables to enhance the power system stability and resilience, real-time electromagnetic transient program simulation, big data mining and analysis for emerging power system applications.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in electrical engineering.
  • Record of successful publication in a related field. Ability to collaboratively write conference and journal publications, and interact with potential research sponsors.
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills and interpersonal skills required.
  • Experience with programming languages (e.g. Python, Matlab).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with PSCAD and PowerWorld Simulator software.
  • Experience with deep reinforcement learning.

Working Environment

  • Standard office environment.
  • Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate.
  • Physical Activities

  • Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period of time.
  • Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.
  • Work Schedule

    Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

    Salary Grade Number:

    The salary grade for the position is GE8.

    Salary Range:

    The salary range for this position is $56,000 - $62,285.
