Job Summary

The Justice-oriented Youth (JoY) Education Lab in Drexel University’s School of Education welcomes applications for a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow on a newly awarded National Science Foundation (NSF) Civic Innovation project titled Placekeeping: A Co-designed Model for Intergenerational Co-housing and Coalition Building in a University-Adjacent Community. The purpose of this project is to develop, implement, and evaluate the Second Story Collective (2SC ) arts-centered model for intergenerational co-housing as an anti-displacement and aging-in-place strategy. In partnership with an established cross-sector partner network, our transdisciplinary research team seeks to address urgent affordable housing needs in the West Philadelphia Promise Zone neighborhood of Mantua. The model has the potential to be implemented in similar communities throughout the US, and results from this pilot will serve as a model of sustained community-driven solutions for equitable development, particularly for historically marginalized Black communities. The Post Doc will be part of a transdisciplinary research team who seek to address urgent affordable housing needs in the West Philadelphia Promise Zone neighborhood of Mantua.

Essential Functions

• Work closely with PIs, graduate students, and program team to advance project goals.
• Lead key aspects of project coordination including management of qualitative, quantitative, and multi-modal data collection and analysis.
• Coordinate project logistics pertaining to timely communication across various stakeholders, executing the research plan and project timeline, scheduling team meetings, recruitment of participants, human research subjects’ protection, and timely reporting.
• Support dissemination plan including presentation and publication of research findings.
• Participate in mentorship activities related to ongoing personal and professional development.
• Support the mission and research agenda of the JoY Lab as an engaged member of the research team and as a member of the JoY Lab leadership team.

Required Qualifications

  • A PhD or Doctorate in Education, Sociology, Urban Studies, Black studies, or related field is required.
  • 1-3 years minimum experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Participatory action research/Community-engaged research experience.
• Advanced qualitative, quantitative, and multi-modal methods.
• Strong administrative and organizational skills pertaining to project/program management.
• Experience working with historically marginalized communities.
• Strong knowledge of and experience applying asset-forward, social justice-oriented, and critical frameworks.

Additional Information

This position is classified as exempt with a grade of I, $41,120.00 - $ 61,680.00. The offered salary is dependent upon internal equity and the successful candidate’s competencies, education, and experience.
