Position Summary | The position will have an academic appointment in Biomedical Engineering and will participate in a NIH-funded research program to develop polymer based drug delivery systems for various indications including HIV prevention and treatment, regenerative medicine and 3D bioprinting utilizing formulation and polymer chemistry, hydrogel systems, stem cell delivery, in vitro model systems, and in vivo studies in relevant models for safety, pharmacokinetics and efficacy. The main focus will be on the design and synthesis of new polymeric materials, drug conjugates and prodrugs; formulation development and optimization combined with in vitro and in vivo characterization and testing. Analytical expertise including HPLC, FT-IR, rheology, DSC, TGA, AFM, NMR, UV-Vis, MALDI-TOF, ICP-MS, XRD, XPS, SAXS, Raman spectroscopy, mechanical testing, imaging techniques including SEM, TEM, ESEM, and confocal imaging and confocal imaging, and knowledge of 3D printing and 3D bioprinting is required .Software experience in ImageJ, Origin, GraphPad, and SolidWorks. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements | Ph.D. or other relevant doctoral degree in Chemistry, Material Science, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a closely related discipline. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | A strong background in organic and polymer chemistry, biochemistry, material science, and pharmaceutical science is required. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | The successful candidate must have excellent communication skills and be creative, highly motivated and able to work independently, with demonstrated experience in writing and executing grants. The position affords the opportunity to mentor undergraduate/professional students in translational research and contribute to collaborative research programs. The candidate must have the interest in and ability to collaborate with other researchers and must be willing to proactively write and publish manuscripts and grants. The preferred candidate will have a solid foundation in organic and polymer synthesis, and analytical methods in materials science, tissue engineering, drug delivery, and biosensor research, with expertise in chemistry and biochemistry, material science, pharmaceutical sciences, biomedical engineering or a closely related discipline, and the interest to contribute as both a leader and team member. |
