Position Summary
A postdoctoral research position is available at the UNC Blood Research Center. The Blood Research Center is a nexus of interdisciplinary research of non-malignant blood disorders across UNC. Our current research spans cellular and non-cellular factors, which impact hemostasis. This position will focus on developing novel treatment strategies for disorders in human coagulation, including sickle cell disease, thrombosis, transfusion-related complications, and hemophilia.
While our research aims are quite broad, we possess an immediate need to investigate the role of microvesicles in coagulation. The project for this candidate will require investigation into red blood cell- storage lesion development, characterization, and subsequent microvesicle production. Experience with microvesicles and coagulation is highly preferred. This project will aim to develop animal models of blood transfusion in collaboration with other Blood Center investigators. As such, animal handling experience is preferred.
The laboratory of Dr. Nigel Key is a team- based group; intra- and inter-lab collaboration has continued to foster stimulating and rewarding research. Our laboratory is closely linked to the UNC Medical Center, and we often integrate with physician scientists. We seek another individual to join our team, yet be capable of independent project development and management. This position will provide the candidate with an outstanding post-doctoral experience, allowing them to progress toward their personal and professional goals.
