Position Summary
We are seeking a postdoctoral scholar to work on a project funded by the Office of Naval Research on hydrodynamics of rocky coasts. The postdoc will work with a multi-institution team to investigate bottom boundary layer dynamics, wave energy dissipation, and turbulence over rocky bottoms in the nearshore. The successful candidate will participate in field experiments on the central California coast, analyze measurements from a large array of oceanographic sensors, and collaborate with team members focusing on modeling and remote sensing, to improve understanding of dynamics on rocky coasts. The postdoc will prepare publications and present project results at scientific meetings. The position is based at the Institute of Marine Sciences, which is located in Morehead City, on the central North Carolina coast.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
PhD in oceanography, marine science, engineering, or related field. 
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Strong background in fluid mechanics and shallow water physical oceanography, including wave mechanics and turbulence. Previous experience with field deployments in the coastal ocean/nearshore. 
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience analyzing wave and turbulence measurements. Current or recent scientific diver (AAUS certification).
