Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit | The Department of City and Regional Planning is an academic unit within the College of Arts and Sciences. The Department engages in teaching, primarily at the graduate level; conducts applied research on urban and regional issues; and serves the state, nation, and planning profession. The department offers a Masters in City and Regional Planning, a PhD, and an undergraduate minor. In any given year there are about 85 Masters students enrolled, 35 doctoral students and a growing cadre of undergraduates and students enrolled in dual degree programs. The faculty consists of 13 tenure-track faculty members along with research and emeritus professors all of whom are active in the teaching and research programs of the department. The faculty usually generates over $3.0 million annual in about 40 research or training grants. |
Position Summary | Applications are invited for an outstanding Post-Doctoral Research Associate to join the Department of City and Regional Planning working under the direction of Prof. Noreen McDonald at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Post-Doctoral Research Associate will conduct research on how warehousing and small parcel delivery have impacted land use, road safety, and traffic volumes. We are seeking a postdoctoral scholar with training in transportation planning and policy and expertise in one or more of the following areas: conducting interviews and content analysis, crash data analysis, quantitative methods including regression. The Post-Doc Research Associate will be expected to significantly contribute to research design, data collection, data analysis, manuscript development, and project management of research staff including doctoral, master’s, and undergraduate students. Several opportunities to be involved in peer-reviewed journal publications are anticipated. Selected candidates will have the opportunity to engage with intellectual opportunities across UNC including professional development opportunities through the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements | The candidate must hold or be about to receive a PhD in city and regional planning, geography, engineering, public policy, public affairs, or related discipline. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | Successful candidates will also demonstrate strong training in methods and research design. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | Experience with novel data science applications is a plus. |
