Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy (www.pharmacy.unc.edu) is one of five health science schools (Pharmacy, Nursing, Dentistry, Public Health, Medicine) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is one of the oldest health science academic programs at Chapel Hill. Position Summary
* Design in vitro, cell culture, and/or in vivo focused on gaining insights into time course of host-pathogen-drug interactions. Experiments will include gathering samples for metabolomics, proteomics, drug quantification and imaging to characterize these interactions.
* Design and conduct experiments to gain a better understanding of the mechanisms of resistance to antibiotics and the role of antibiotic resistance in the ability of bacteria to cause infection. 
* Develop enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA), utilize Luminex bead-based multiplex assay and flow cytometry to analyze samples for measuring numerous cytokines and signaling molecules.
* Perform analysis of experimental data, integrate PK/PD knowledge gained from various in vitro/in vivo experiments and contribute to the model development process to inform future study design 
* Handle data management, graphical analyses, preparing presentations and participate in (1-2 annually) related scientific symposia.
* Publish research performed, contribute to grant writing and help shape the overall scope and direction of the research program.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
A doctorate in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Pharmacy, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or related field
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* Experience with in vitro experiments focused on evaluating time course PK-PD characterization of antibiotics is essential.
* Hands-on experience with rodent disease models, preferably in infectious diseases with experience with drug delivery procedures (IV, IP, SC, PO), and blood and tissue collection is preferred. 
* Experience in sterile cell culture techniques, and in vitro/ex vivo immune cell-based assays.
* Preferred qualifications: Bioluminescent/fluorescence imaging using an IVIS Spectrum In Vivo Imaging System. Experience with FLOW cytometry is a plus.
* Experience with molecular biology techniques including plasmid design, qPCR, ddPCR and transcriptomics is a plus
* Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team with colleagues and collaborators from diverse backgrounds 
* Detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to manage multiple tasks
