Job Summary

The NSF Engineering Research Center, Advancing Sustainability through Powered Infrastructure for Roadway Electrification (ASPIRE) is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to focus on, but not limited to, investigating strategies for broadening participation in engineering, effective engagement with high school and undergraduate students in STEM, mentoring, exploring equity in engineering research, and strategically introducing diversity, equity, and inclusion competencies to university faculty, staff, and students.  The candidate will help develop metrics for project tasks, specifically in the Learning and Engagement Project, and for the center as whole that are needed for project assessment and programmatic implementation.  The candidate will also assist with grant writing to support increasing access to engineering research and engagement opportunities.  It is expected that the candidate will have important oversight responsibilities for graduate, undergraduate, and high school students including mentoring students and assisting with the Research Experience for Undergraduate Program.  The candidate will also develop, distribute, and analyze assessment and evaluation data on center programs.  The position is 40 hours per week with a possible duration of two years, contingent upon successful performance each year.  Application review begins immediately, with a flexible intended start date between now and June 2024.

Education and Experience

Qualified individuals should have a Ph.D. in Engineering Education, Education, program evaluation and assessment, policy, workforce development, or a related social science or engineering field, and should have an interest in broadening the participation of historically underrepresented groups in engineering and interest in the general operation of the transportation sector, or transportation systems to engage historically underrepresented groups.


Skills
  • Excellent analytical skills, preferably with experience of survey analysis, statistical tools, qualitative data collection, mixed methods, and equity frameworks.
  • Experience with routine software programs such as word processing, spreadsheets, statistical analysis, and other relevant programs.
  • High competencies in personal interactions and professional presentations and ability to engage others in sometimes uncomfortable conversations.
  • Strong organizational, writing and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and participate in teams with diverse individuals.
  • Commitment to broadening participation to demographic groups who are historically underrepresented in engineering and supporting an inclusive and diverse work environment.
