Position Summary
The goal of the Cystic Fibrosis/Pulmonary Research and Treatment Center is to provide the mechanism for generating world-class research into the pathogenesis and treatment of disease that impact on the airways of the human lung. The focus will be on muco-obstruction in lung diseases. The research in the laboratory focuses on the biology and physiology of airway secretions in general, mucus in particular, and how these properties relate to mucus transport in the mammalian lung in health and disease. The research activities will involve a series of in vitro measurements of mucus biophysical properties, couple to in vivo measurements of mucus transport, that may include simple measures of particle transport, and optical coherence tomography (OCT). The research activities may also include new single cell sequencing approaches, RNA scope techniques, and CRISPR/Cas9 based gene editing in primary human airway epithelial cells. Notably, you may be expected to be involved in full-time research on a wide range of topics, including the study of bronchiectasis utilizing a new animal model, studies of ER stress modulation of mucin gene expression, and studies involving characterization of sputum/mucus properties of human samples.
