Applied Mathematics, Postdoctoral Fellow in Mathematical Biology

Purdue University welcomes applications for a postdoctoral fellow in the area of pattern formation and complex systems, to work with Alexandria Volkening (https://www.alexandriavolkening.com) in the Department of Mathematics (https://www.math.purdue.edu) or the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering (https://engineering.purdue.edu/BME).

Qualifications

The successful applicant will collaborate on one or more multidisciplinary projects in the Volkening group; possible projects include (but are not limited to) data-driven, agent-based, or PDE modeling of pattern formation for developmental-biology applications, such as skin-pattern formation or plant growth. Projects may use biological data and questions to motivate the development of topological techniques or parameter-estimation methods for complex systems. The postdoctoral fellow will have the opportunity to co-mentor undergraduate researchers if they are interested.

The position is intended for up to three years, with an initial appointment of two years (third year possible based on availability of funding and performance). Funding is available to cover some moving expenses and conference travel.

Applications

Applications should consist of: cover letter, CV, research statement, statement on diversity and inclusion, and three letters of recommendation. A teaching statement and additional references beyond three letters are optional. All of these materials should be submitted on https://www.mathjobs.org , and application review will begin December 15, 2021.

Questions are welcome — please contact Dr. Alexandria Volkening ([email protected] ).
