Job Summary

The Hong Lab in the Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology, College of Pharmacy and the Nora Eccles Harrison Cardiovascular Research and Training Institute at the University of Utah is seeking for innovative, energetic, and motivated postdoctoral scientists to work on NIH-funded research focusing on understanding basic mechanisms of cardiac metabolism and heart failure using cellular and animal models to develop novel therapies for heart failure.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities include exploring new mechanistic regulation of membrane microdomains in normal and failing cardiomyocytes using imaging and biochemical analysis, studying cardiomyocyte metabolic dysregulation in animal models of HFrEF and HFpEF, developing new therapies using both in vitro and in vivo biochemical approaches, and using multiple rodent and large animal models of HFrEF and HFpEF to explore the rescue ability of such treatment. Detailed training activities include laboratory animal handling, cell culture, fluorescent confocal imaging and super-resolution imaging as well as TEM imaging, and protein and molecular biology techniques. Other academic activities include writing original research manuscripts and grant applications, preparation and delivery of poster and oral presentations at local and national scientific conferences, and mentoring research interns and associates.

Minimum Qualifications

Preferences
Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Physiology, Pharmacology, or related Biomedical Science field or an equivalent doctoral degree is required. Previous experience in cardiac metabolism and/or cell biology, and/or animal models of heart failure are preferred but not required.
