Job Description Summary:
Dr. Navneet Dhillon’s Lab in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine is seeking a highly self-motivated, hardworking candidate to work in the laboratory at the University of Kansas Medical Center, focused on unraveling the molecular mechanisms involved in vascular dysfunction associated with cardio-pulmonary complications. This research will use imaging, biochemical, proteomic, and microbiological techniques both in vitro and in vivo. The primary research focus of the lab is aimed at mechanistically understanding how viral infections and drugs of abuse contribute alone and in conjunction to pulmonary vascular injury. The current research focus of the lab is aimed at elucidating the role of long non-coding RNAs and miRNAs, extracellular vesicles and interplay of macrophages, and T cells in pulmonary vascular remodeling.
Candidates with a strong background in Molecular/Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, Anatomy & Physiology, Immunology, Microbiology, or related discipline and prior experience of working either with vascular dysfunction or cardiopulmonary complications will be preferred. Experience working with BSL 2 pathogens is also preferred. Competence is areas of critical thinking, cell culture/technical skills and written/communication skills in English, with prior publication record, strong work ethics, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team is required.

Required Qualifications

Education:

  • Ph.D. in Molecular/Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field.

Work Experience:

  • Experience in cell culture, microscopy, and viral models such as HIV.

  • Experience with peptide biochemistry, pathogenesis, and imaging.

Preferred Qualifications

Work Experience:

  • A record of creativity and scientific productivity

  • Proficiency in advanced molecular biology techniques including RNA-seq

  • Experience developing and conducting experiments pertaining to cardiopulmonary diseases

  • Experience with microscopy and/or flow cytometry

  • Must be willing to perform both primary cell culture and animal model studies. 

Job Duties Outlined:

  • Independently interpret experimental results and analysis of data to use in publications, grants, and determining the next steps for the research

  • Perform in vitro studies with primary lung cell culture

  • Perform molecular, proteomic, and histological experiments pertaining to cardiopulmonary complications, with a focus on pulmonary hypertension

  • Participate in the preparation of scientific manuscripts and grant proposals

  • Design independent experiments in consultation with the Principal Investigator

  • Assist the Principal Investigator in the supervision and training of students and research personnel

  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
