Essential Functions (Job Duties)
Abdulghani Sankari, MD, PhD is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Wayne State University and a VA Physician Scientist. Dr. Sankari recently has a new research funding from NIH. The proposed is designed to explore if a single injection of novel drug-nanoconjugate can induce recovery of the diaphragm in rats with injured spinal cords. He is seeking post-doctoral fellows interested in this research area.
Essential Functions:
Perform survival surgery on animal model for SCI and conduct diaphragm EMG and phrenic nerve recordings.
Take adequate care of animals enrolled in the PI study, preoperatively and throughout the recovery period.
Perform data summary and statistical tests.
Participate in drafting and editing scientific manuscripts of research studies as requested by The PI.
Present research progress regularly to the PI and his research team.
Participate in presenting data in scientific meetings as requested by the PI.
Take responsibility in protecting the scientific data, managing the set up and record of studies
 
Unique Duties
 
Qualifications
PhD with experience in animal and respiratory physiology. Candidates with expertise in animal surgery and non-invasive measures of respiratory function are required.
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Adequate prior training by DLAR on survival surgery is required.
 
Preferred Qualifications
Post-doctoral candidates with expertise in invasive and non-invasive measures of animal's respiratory and autonomic function during wakefulness and sleep are preferred.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Willing to perform experiments in animal research laboratory.
