The College of Medicine, Department of Cardiology, is looking for a Post Doc Fellow. This position will support the University’s mission and commitment to excellence and diversity in our students, faculty, staff and all our activities.


Job Summary/Duties: This position will support basic/translational research projects on molecular/cellular research in Autonomic Modulation and Sudden Cardiac Death.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Performing low and high throughput in vitro assays (e.g., RT-PCR, ELISA, Western blotting, luminescent and fluorescent based assay development, proteomics), and in vivo genetic manipulations (e.g., adenoviral- mediated shRNA preparation/transduction)
  • Performing cell culture (e.g., maintaining and plating cell cultures) and cell isolation (Langendorff perfused heart, nerve/ganglia isolation), including handling of animal and human specimens
  • Conducting research utilizing genomics, molecular/cellular biology, fluorescent intracellular dye-based microscopy and electrophysiology including patch clamp, ex vivo whole heart and in vivo approaches
  • Preparing chemical reagents and biological media, and performing techniques without supervision
  • Collaborating with others in the PI’s lab to perform experiments and analyze data
  • Maintaining experimental data/records and sharing these with the PI in weekly meetings and presenting research results orally and in writing through conference and journal article publications
  • Daily maintenance of organized work area so that all items are available as needed for current research in the lab, including inventory and updated list of items needed for lab, placing orders, verifying receipt of items, safety compliance, developing lab policies, procedures and/or methods for experimentation, and training/guiding students/staff


Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.A./B.S. or higher degree in the Biological Sciences or related discipline and experience with Patch Clamp Electrophysiology are required
  • knowledge of basic chemistry (determination of molarity, protein concentration, dilutions) is required
  • ability to use basic lab equipment, including balances and centrifuges, pH meter, spectrophotometers and microscopes are required
  • skills and experience with aseptic, sterile techniques and cell culture are required
  • computer skills (word processing, graphics, statistical analysis) are required
  • ability to interact with a diverse group of individuals, to learn new techniques quickly, and to maintain good organizational skills are required
  • prior experience with small laboratory animals (mice, guinea pig) is preferred
  • skills and experience in Molecular Biology (electrophoresis, RT-PCR, nucleic acid purification) and Genetic Engineering (e.g., adenoviral transduction, CRISPR/Cas9) are preferred
