Overview of Educational Advisor

The Educational Opportunity Programs is seeking an Educational Advisor.  The primary responsibility of the Educational Advisor would be to assist students with achieving a variety of goals including academic, leadership, social or career focused objectives.

 

Pay:

  • $45,000 - $48,000

 

Schedule:

  • Monday - Friday 8am - 4:30pm, some weekends, evenings, and overnights

Duties and Responsibilities of Educational Advisor
  • Identify, recruit, and provide designated services to middle and high school students in target schools
  • Assess each new participant’s academic skills; develop and maintain plan to address participant’s needs assessment
  • Work with target school personnel
  • Collect statistical data on participants, target schools, and service area (i.e. grades, test scores, attendance). Refer participants to appropriate tutoring program
  • Maintain updated participant files
  • Track seniors to monitor post-secondary admission and enrollment
  • Correspond with participants, parents, and target school personnel via phone/text, social media, mail, etc. throughout program year
  • Monitor course selection and make periodic grade reviews
  • Participate in professional development to better provide post-secondary advising to participants
  • Work with Program Coordinator to provide and chaperone college visits and cultural experiences

Education of Educational Advisor
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Human Services, Social Work, or a closely related field required

Experience of Educational Advisor
  • Three years’ experience in working with/advising students in areas of education, career planning, financial aid
  • Experience working with groups traditionally underrepresented, low-income, and first generation preferred.  Preferrably with students at the secondary level

Core Competencies of Educational Advisor
  • Knowledgeable of college admissions process
  • Proficiency and accuracy in word processing and email
  • Ability to operate and maintain office equipment
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, organizational time management, and program planning and presentation skills
  • Must have the ability to work a flexible schedule as necessary to provide services outlined in the grant
  • Must be dependable in reporting for work as scheduled
  • As a part of the job responsibilities associated with this position, knowledge of rules and regulations set forth by the NCAA and conference should be maintained, reviewed, and practiced to ensure compliance relative to those applicable duties
