Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Post-Approval Monitoring (PAM)Specialist is a member of the Conflicts of Interest (COI) team, reporting directly to the COI Administrator (Dr. Beth Brittan-Powell). The COI team oversees the examination of faculty disclosures and manages the preparation, review, processing, and documentation of COI cases. Additionally, the team provides support to the COI Committee and actively participates in the implementation of education and compliance initiatives.
The Post-Approval Monitoring Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring that established COI Management Plans (MPs) are effectively implemented and adhered to after receiving approval. In addition, the Post-Approval Monitoring Specialist will act as the COI Representative overseeing Post-Approval Monitoring for all risk-level COI MPs.
This is a new position being created in the COI Office and as such there is tremendous potential for growth and autonomy. The incumbent candidate is expected to work collaboratively with team members, departmental administrators, and researchers across the university to evaluate opportunities to develop a robust PAM program.
Responsibilities include:
  • Aid researchers (disclosers) in the COI disclosure process to ensure compliance with Presidential-approved COI MPs.
  • Assist with post-approval monitoring/implementation of approved COI management plans to ensure compliance with federal regulations and ethical engagement in innovation and entrepreneurship, including interfacing with the discloser and department/academic units to prepare materials for the annual reporting process.
  • Provide guidance and support to individuals involved in the COI process after approval.
  • Functions as a non-voting member of the COI Committee.

COI knowledge:
  • Maintain a current and thorough understanding of university policies and federal regulations on COI, trends, and changes to federal regulations that have the potential to impact university research activities and researchers’ engagement in entrepreneurship.
  • Monitor new developments in COI regulations, rules, and laws and analyze the impact of such changes on the research community.
  • Participates in the development of COI campus policies, guidance, and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.


Experience:

Minimum of 5-7 years of progressively responsible related professional experience with:
  • At least one year of experience in a University setting in a compliance-related role, preferably in conflict of interest disclosure or a related field.
  • Experience in analyzing post-approval processes related to COI, ensuring compliance with established policies and regulations.
  • Experience focused on research administration, research compliance, and integrity, or other regulatory compliance in an active research setting.
  • Experience in research compliance within a higher education environment, specifically with COI management.
  • Experience delivering customer service solutions with a focus on problem-solving, and skilled in effective collaboration within team-based settings; notable emphasis on meticulous. attention to detail and an outcome-driven approach.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge and technical expertise in research administration areas, including but not limited to knowledge of the federal regulatory framework governing COI, research misconduct, and/or responsible conduct of research.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, high level of organizational skills, and time management.
  • Ability to analyze post-approval processes related to COI, ensuring compliance with established policies and regulations.
  • Effective communication to convey findings, recommendations, and updates to relevant stakeholders, fostering transparency and understanding.
  • Understanding of relevant laws, regulations, and organizational policies pertaining to COI, ensuring adherence in post-approval monitoring.
  • Efficient management of post-approval monitoring processes, including documentation, tracking, and reporting.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and ensure confidentiality in all aspects of post-approval monitoring.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively with research community, including faculty, staff and students from a variety of diverse backgrounds.
  • Proficiency with Google and Microsoft Office Suite required.

  • Previous research experience or experience in a research environment
