Position Summary
Polysomnographic Trainee works under direct supervision of Sleep Technologist (RPSGT) to develop competencies in and performs basic sleep testing procedures and associated interventions.


Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Gathers patient information: review history, physical information, medications, verify the medical order and protocol, complete and validate documentation, explain the procedure and orient the patient to the sleep lab.
  • Performs sleep testing and interventions: prepare and calibrate monitoring equipment; apply electrodes and sensors and calibrate to verify accuracy of signals; monitors polysomnograms and learns to interpret data; learns to titrate CPAP/BiPAP.
  • Documents routine observations, including clinical events, procedures conducted and other significant events; operates electronic health record.
  • Assists with general maintenance of equipment and lab facilities.
  • Complies with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and standards for an accredited sleep laboratory, as well as safety and infection control requirements.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of A-STEP introductory course or equivalent and enrollment in or completion of, A-STEP self-study modules.
  • Capacity and willingness to learn are the major requirements for the position.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with patients, other sleep staff and sleep providers.


Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • BLS/CPR certification (may be acquired after hire).
  • Complete BRPT Registered Polysomnographic Technologist within 18 months of hire.

Salary Range
$16.08 - $23.01 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
