SHIFT: PRN

LOCATION: Sleep Disorder Clinic (1580 Jewell Ave, Columbia, MO 65203)

SALARY RANGE: $30.60/hr

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

The Polysomnographic Technologist will perform and evaluate overnight polysomnograms. This position works independently to safely operate complex medical equipment to record and score sleep/wake physiology. The Polysomnographic Technologist will work under the guidance of a physician medical director in a Sleep Center location. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Explain test procedures to patients before the studies and provide for psychological needs while in the sleep center to obtain quality test results. Differentiate the quality of procedure and patient cooperation for interpretive analysis.

Record and score sleep/wake results.

Collaborate with physicians, informing them of patients’ psychological status and environmental conditions during procedures for consideration in the physician’s interpretation of test results.

Adapt test methods and instrumentation to obtain optimal patient results.

Clean, calibrate and process sleep equipment and sensors. Report all equipment and supply needs to leadership.

Recognize medically emergent situations and take appropriate actions.

Complete necessary documentation and billing.

Perform limited office, secretarial, and patient transport duties.

Meet all Patient Family Centered Care standards and patient experience goals.

Mentor new Polysomnographic Technicians and assist leadership with their onboarding and training.

May complete unit/department specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met with or without reasonable accommodation. The performance of these physical demands is an essential function of the job. This position is very active and requires ambulating, reaching, and moving objects weighing up to and over 20 lbs.

This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. This position is in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required. 

 

Qualifications

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

One (1) year of experience as a sleep polysomnography technologist.

Certification in one of the following:

  • Registered Sleep Technologist (RST) by the American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM); or 
  • Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT); or 
  • Sleep Disorders Specialty (CRT-SDS) or (RRT-SDS) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Associate's degree in a science or health related field.

Two (2) years of experience in nursing, EEG technologist, or other allied health field.

Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
