Through discovery and education, we contribute to understanding and sustaining ecosystems and their services. We examine these in the context of current stresses such as changing climate, species introductions, land-use change and intensification. Our department uses state-of-the-art technologies and approaches to provide a quality education to future scientists, educators and decision makers, conducts cutting edge interdisciplinary research, and delivers culturally relevant outreach programs that empower our students and the public locally, nationally, and internationally. The Bowser/Halliwell Lab is seeking a Pollinator Research Associate to support efforts exploring ecological elements of national park field experiences, including but not limited to pollinator inventories. The ideal candidate will be well versed in natural resource research methodologies, and citizen science. The candidate should have a strong interest in national parks, citizen science, as well as diversity and inclusion within the sciences. The RA will have a formative role in managing field research efforts in partnership with the National Park Service (NPS). They will be tasked with designing and implementing field sampling protocols, planning and organizing general research efforts, conducting citizen and climate science assessments, and analyzing research data. Additionally, this individual will support pollinator research elements of the effort as needed. The successful candidate will build a strong and positive working relationships with NPS staff, fellow researchers, campus faculty and administrators, as well as external community and business partners as required for each project element. Finally, the BioTech will actively lead and participate in transdisciplinary teams. Travel and working non-standard hours are expected. Qualifications
Required Qualifications: • B.S. in any associated sciences (natural resources or related field) • More than 3 years of relevant professional experience or a recent Master’s degree • Demonstrates strong expertise in natural resource research (examples: REUs, field tech, research experience). • Experience working and/or leading a team • Willingness to be field based at multiple locations for extended periods of time • Ability to travel to remote field locations throughout the summer season • Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license by the employment start date.
