– The College System of Tennessee serves as the governing board for 40
community colleges and technical colleges across the state. The Policy and Strategy division works at the
front lines of TBR’s effort to develop insights about student success through
data and research. The Policy Researcher
will work on large-scale research projects to identify student needs and
develop targeted interventions that promote student access and success. As part of the Policy and Strategy team, the
Policy Researcher will collaborate with external research partners, internal
stakeholders, and colleges across the TBR system to transform data into
actionable information about student success.
As part of this work, the Policy Researcher will have the opportunity to build new data and research skills, and additional data analysis software training is available for well-qualified candidates. TBR’s work schedules provides flexibility for current graduate students who are interested in applying.
Research academic literature, policy briefs, and other sources form national and regional organizations on issues that are related to ongoing policy work of TBR. This work may include preparing white papers or short memos to help us better understand a policy area.
Conduct data analysis or assist with data analysis as part of large-scale projects for the Policy & Strategy division. This includes analysis of enrollment, degree completion, and employment trends, to identify populations for targeted interventions that promote success across TBR’s 40 community and technical colleges.
Engage in project planning and collaboration with research partners. This includes developing and tracking research plans to ensure that projects are completed in accordance with relevant timelines as well as working with colleges to design and test interventions.

Requirements of the Position
Demonstrated ability to work with a research team and turn data into actionable insights;
Experience analyzing data using tools like Excel, Stata, R, or related tools in either a professional or academic setting; and a willingness to develop data skills with additional training;
Demonstrated ability to analyze and present information in a concise and informative manner;
Ability to manage multiple projects and work simultaneously with short and long-term priorities;
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including excellent writing and presentation skills;
Demonstrated ability to be professional, courteous, trustworthy team player
Three years of professional work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience;
Coursework in quantitative research methods, data analysis, or related fields
Graduate degree in higher education, public policy, economics, data science, statistics, or a related field;
Experience analyzing higher education data;
Demonstrated proficiency with data analysis software;
Related professional work experience, beyond that obtained in a graduate learning environment
