Job Overview

The Georgetown Center on Poverty and Inequality’s Economic Security and Opportunity Initiative (ESOI) works with policymakers, researchers, practitioners, and advocates to develop effective policies and practices to alleviate poverty and inequality in the United States. Areas of research include tax and benefits, jobs and education, health and human service delivery, and democracy, all with a cross-cutting focus on racial and gender equity.

The Policy Assistant provides support to ESOI staff in duties that include but are not limited to:

  • Provides qualitative and quantitative research assistance and analysis for a range of issues relating to poverty and inequality
  • Performs document and figure drafting, editing, review, and formatting
  • Provides coordination and administrative support for convenings, events, meetings
  • Performs assistance with communications, development, operations, or other activities

Work Interactions

Reporting to a Senior Policy Analyst and working under project supervision of other Analysts and Directors, the Policy Analyst interacts with students and other faculty and staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Education or experience with policy analysis and research
  • Excellent research, writing, and communication skills
  • Background in issues related to poverty, economic justice, social inclusion, racial equity, gender equity, and/or disability rights - including lived experience
  • A commitment to the Center’s mission
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to organize and manage competing priorities, tasks and deadlines
  • Flexibility and enthusiasm for learning

Work Mode: Hybrid (2 days On Campus, 3 days Telework). Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University.
