Essential Job Duties
IEI is seeking an energetic and adaptive team member to support IEl’s efforts to shape statewide and local policies and programs that help achieve a more vibrant and economically competitive North Carolina. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working collaboratively in a team, learning about issues from a broad array of perspectives, and creatively considering solutions that benefit our state. We seek someone comfortable with creating new programs, testing them, and adapting as necessary to achieve results.
A candidate will thrive in this role if they enjoy being challenged by complex issues, welcome collaborative and constructive feedback from partners and peers, are productive in a fast-paced environment, are genuinely interested in meeting new people, and are committed to making a difference in the lives of North Carolinians. One of the key functions of this position is shaping the annual Emerging Issues Forum and related program of work.
On an ongoing basis, this position will:
  • Co-create the Emerging Issue Forum agenda and multi-year program of work, including identifying, inviting, and prepping speakers.
  • Lead research/information collection and stakeholder engagement to frame issues and identify major programmatic themes for the issues we take on.
  • Design convening agendas and facilitate conversations that create opportunities for stakeholders to share their expertise and experience with an issue to help shape our policy efforts.
  • Synthesize research findings to identify and recommend best practices and identify opportunities for policy and practice development at the state, local and regional levels.
  • Design and implement strategies that promote action in partnership with stakeholders and IEI staff.
  • Prepare informative communications (e.g., biogs, infographics, data briefs, reports, presentations) for both internal and external audiences; collaborate with the communications team to design and help integrate data into compelling formats.
  • Support efforts to secure resources, including grant writing, reporting and compliance with standards.
  • Write grant proposals to support program outcomes. Manage grants, budgets and comply with all reporting requirements.
  • Travel requirements (0-10%) and involves occasional work outside normal working hours (weekends and after-hour events).
  • Contribute to IEl’s ongoing projects and other tasks as necessary.
  • Periodically supervise student workers.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
Required
  • Post-baccalaureate credentials or a bachelor’s degree plus alternative or equivalent professional training and experience may be substituted for the advanced degree on an exceptional basis.
  • Knowledge of the public policy process and a minimum of two years’ experience in public policy issues and program implementation.
  • Knowledge of North Carolina’s history, politics, and key stakeholders as they relate to economic and community development (broadly defined).
