Physical Requirements
Lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects up to 100 lbs., sitting for long periods of time, walking for long periods of time, standing for long periods of time, handling intermittent periods of high levels of stress.
Candidates will not be required to complete the physical fitness test portion of Police Officer Professional Standards (POPS) if grandfathered or currently KLEC certified. Shift
10 hour shifts, four days a week on either 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift:
1st shift – 7:00 am to 5:00 pm
2nd shift – 4:00 pm to 2:00 am
3rd shift – 10:00 pm to 8:00 am
Days, Evenings, Nights, Weekends, Holidays, and mandatory Overtime.
Job Summary
UK HealthCare Police Officers are responsible for providing the UK HealthCare community with a safe and secure environment in which to work, live, and learn. This position will serve specifically and primarily at Chandler Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospital.
The department is service oriented and specializes in meeting the needs of the campus’ diverse population of students, faculty, staff, hospital guests, and visitors. The major job responsibilities of the UK HealthCare Police Officer include patrol and investigations, public relations and service, professional development and training, and report writing.
Specific duties include patrol, law enforcement, criminal investigation, community relations, preparing and presenting testimony in court, completing trainings and professional development, and completing University documents including but not limited to reports, tickets, daily logs, and property/person receipts.
Officers shall positively interact, enhance relations, and represent the University with local law enforcement, community partners, and UK HealthCare officials.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
Per Kentucky Regulations, this position has several minimum requirements to qualify as indicated below.
• Citizen of the United States
• At least twenty-one (21) years of age
• High school graduate or has successfully completed a General Education Development (G.E.D.) examination
• Possess a valid driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle
• Has not been convicted of a felony
• Has not received a dishonorable discharge, bad conduct discharge, or general discharge under other than honorable conditions
• Not prohibited by federal or state law from possessing a firearm
• Not had certification as a peace officer permanently revoked in another state
Must complete Department of Criminal Justice Training (DOCJT) Basic Training Academy within one year of hire date if not already certified.
