Responsibilities:

The Police Communications Operator (PCO) handles emergency and non-emergency communications and greets the public at the Police Station.

Specific duties include:

  • Operate two-way radio, telecommunications and University Alarm System
  • Operate Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system
  • Receive and record information regarding emergencies, complaints, request for service, assistance and general information
  • Dispatch officers to emergencies and other requests for service
  • Monitor campus security cameras
  • Greet the public entering the Police Station
  • Obtain and maintain METERS/NCIC CN1 Level of certification
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Two years of clerical or other related experience
  • Ability to typing accurately required
  • Must obtain METE
  • RS/NCIC CN1 certification during first three months of employment
  • Overtime and shift work is required. 
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Disptacher experience
  • METERS/NCIC experience
  • Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system experience
  • Clerical or other data entry related experience
Background Screening Statement:

A background check will be required.  

Closing Date: April 10, 2020
Salary: Pay Range 8 (starting at $35,438) based on the University System of Maryland Pay Program
Hours: Full-time.  Ability to work overtime and shift work is required
Type: Regular
Additional Information: This position is considered an essential employee, which requires working during inclement weather and is subject to mandatory overtime.
