INTERNAL JOB POSTING

Attends full time Criminal Justice Training Center Basic Peace Officer Certification Program and passes the TCLEOSE licensing examination. The Cadet must pass all required testing and background investigation and be approved for sponsorship by UH-DPS. Job Duties

  • Attends classes, participates in classroom discussions and group projects, and maintains comprehensive notebooks of subjects covered in classes.
  • Prepares research papers and homework as assigned, maintaining satisfactory performance in all areas of the academy.
  • Participates in the physical training program, firearms training program, defensive tactics program and practical problems.
  • Complies with assignments and instructions given by UH Department of Public Safety Chief of Police or by any member of the Criminal Justice Training Center Staff.
  • Adheres to University of Houston System and University of Houston Central Campus policies and procedures.
  • Adheres to University of Houston Department of Public Safety Standards of Operations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

     

    High school and No experience

    Education: High School Diploma or GED. Must be willing to sign educational contract and must successfully complete all phases of the departmental selection process prior to attending the Criminal Justice Training Center Basic Peace Officer Certification Program. Experience: No experience is required. Certification/Licensing: Requires technical certification or licensing directly related to the job, as specified on the job posting details.

    Additional Posting Information

    Must pass Background Investigation prior to employment.

    Must pass a pre-employment drug screening.

    Must be willing to sign educational contract and must successfully complete all phases of the departmental selection process prior to attending the Criminal Justice Training Center Basic Peace Officer Certification Program.

    Candidate must be willing to sign an educational contract that requires remaining in the Police position for 2 years.

    Environmental:
    The employee maybe exposed to inclement weather conditions; extensive public contact with student, faculty and staff. Employees are required to work various assigned shifts, including days, evenings, nights and weekends and may be required to remain at their post for an additional shift. All staff are "essential personnel" and are required to report to work
    during inclement weather.

    Physical:
    Primary functions require sufficient physical ability to work in a law enforcement setting and an office setting; restrain or subdue individuals; walk, stand, sit, or run for extended periods of time; occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; occasionally climb and balance; ability to operate and use specialized law enforcement tools and equipment.
