PNW Assistant Professor of Practice in Visual Communication and Design

The Department of Communication and Creative Arts at Purdue University Northwest is hiring an assistant professor of practice in visual communication design. The position is renewable contingent upon successful completion of a probationary year, effective performance, continued funding, and department needs. 

This is a full-time, non-tenure track assistant professor of practice appointment with a nine-month service period each year and anticipated start date of August 2023. The criteria for merit evaluation and promotion in this position will be based on learning, the scholarship of engagement or creative work in the visual communication design field.  The position offers a competitive salary, university benefits, opportunities for promotion, and protection of academic freedom.

Teaching responsibilities include courses in visual communication design, typography, drawing, digital photography, web design, color and composition, motion design, portfolio process and animation.

The successful candidate will play an instrumental role in creating a fresh vision for the visual communication design concentration. Interest in developing curricula that addresses multicultural issues and diversity is especially valued.

The successful candidate will be actively involved in producing scholarship of engagement or producing creative work in the visual communication design field. Maintaining professional relevance in the visual communication design field is essential.

The successful candidate will have an earned Ph.D. or MFA from an accredited college or university at the time of appointment. A high level of knowledge of Adobe CC Suite, especially InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator, is expected.

Faculty members in the Department of Communication and Creative Arts are expected to participate in departmental, university, disciplinary and public service. All faculty serve on a variety of assigned and voluntary committees.
