Job Summary
Eastern Washington University is seeking a skilled Plumber/Pipefitter/Steamfitter.
This position is open due to a promotion within our department.
  • This position installs, maintains and repairs water mains, storm sewers, septic tanks, sewage mains and laterals, valves, drains, basins, tubs, faucets, lavatories, sinks, gates, hydrants, water coolers, and dishwashers and associated equipment.
  • This position is also responsible for repairing fixtures, performing valve maintenance, cutting and threading pipe, testing back flow assemblies.
  • In addition this position is responsible for maintaining water mains, fixtures, sewer lines, valves and septic tanks to determine need for maintenance, cleaning and/or repair.

Required Qualifications
  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as a plumber/pipefitter/steamfitter, OR full journey status as a plumber/pipefitter/steamfitter in a union, OR four years applicable work experience.
  • Ability to work from blueprints, plans and sketches; estimate materials and time needed to complete jobs; use hand and power tools.
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications
  • Water Distribution Manager Certificate of Competency and/or Water Treatment Plant Operator Certificate of Competency issued by the Department of Health
  • Back flow assembly tester
  • Cross connection control specialist

    • Perform journey level plumbing, pipefitting and steamfitting installation, service and maintenance without direct supervision.
    • Follow all codes and regulations for installation and maintenance of equipment. Follow all safety procedures of department and trade. Report any discrepancies in code and safety procedures to supervision.
    • Provide assistance to other shops at EWU as requested. Provide assistance to contractors and vendors when requested.
    • Assist in the preparation of plumbing shop projects. When requested, contact vendors to gather information to materials and equipment. Generate requests for materials and equipment needed to complete projects.
    • Complete all shop and departmental paperwork as required to include, but not limited to, service order cards, time sheets, work orders, request for leave, incident and hazard report forms and other departmental forms.

    • Follow all university and departmental procedures as directed. Follow chain of command during requests for information or conflict resolution.
    • Pick up work orders, respond to radio dispatches from the work order center and others. Report emergency situations to work order center and supervision.
    • Represent the plumbing shop, the department and the university in a professional manner, Respond to and participate in emergency overtime.
    • Attend training and keep a current asbestos worker certification. Attend any other required training.
    • Pick up materials from vendors as requested.
    • Provide input to shop performance and efficiency.
    • Perform related duties as required.
