Plumber II

The primary job responsibilities for this position include repairing, maintaining, and the installation of mechanical systems and plumbing systems. As a Journeyman Plumber you will be responsible for new installations, renovations, and service within the commercial, industrial and residential settings in compliance with the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) and mechanical codes. • Installs, repairs and maintains mechanical room equipment, piping, fixtures and other system equipment and components in compliance with uniform plumbing codes (UPC) and mechanical codes, standards and regulations.
• Operates a variety of plumbing equipment used for locating and determining types of plumbing malfunctions.
• Studies plans, drawings, specifications and work orders to determine work requirement and sequence of repairs and/or installations.
• May perform hot work if qualified and trained with all necessary precautions in place.
• Assists in training and developing apprentices by providing on the job instruction to basic tasks.
• Plans what materials and tools needed to complete the job and performs duties as assigned by Lead Plumber and Supervisor.
• Performs housekeeping duties to maintain a clean, uncluttered and safe work environment and ensures shop equipment is in proper working conditions.
• Works with a commitment to safety and upholds the core values of Facilities Management at The University of Arizona.
• Prepares cost estimates for clients.
• Reads blueprints and follows state and local building codes.
• Installs pipes and fixtures.
• Inspects and tests installed pipe systems and pipelines.
• Troubleshoot malfunctioning systems.
• Maintains and repairs plumbing systems.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: 

• Knowledge of PRVs , Steam, Vacuum and Air.

• High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience required.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy .

• Previous experience working as a Journeyman Plumber supporting a large facility (ie. School district, hospital, etc.).
• Completion of a 4-year apprenticeship program.
