Basic Function
Under the direction of the Trade’s Supervisor, perform repair, installation, alteration, and maintenance of campus plumbing. Provide preventative maintenance of and trouble shooting for plumbing related problems. Perform skilled maintenance work in other related areas.
Representative Duties
Inspect, repair, service, and maintain plumbing systems and controls. E
Install new plumbing, and irrigation systems. E
Perform preventative maintenance and diagnose problems on existing systems. E
Snake (clear) drains by hand or with power tools. E
Install, or repair ABS or cast iron drain waste, and vent lines to code. E
Layout, install or repair copper and PVC lines for domestic and irrigation supply. E
Repair, maintain, and rebuild a variety of control valves. E
Layout, cut, thread, and install galvanized, black iron and WSG piping. E
Replace faucets and shower control valves. E
Perform skilled maintenance work in other trades areas. E
Operate a variety of tools and power equipment. E
Train and provide work direction to assistants, as assigned.
Perform related duties as assigned in areas needed.
Serve on rotating On-Call schedule to cover after hours emergencies. E
Knowledge Of
Manual and power tools applicable to Plumbing trade
Building codes, policies, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to plumbing
Methods and use of test equipment
Tools, materials and procedures used in the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems and components
Technical aspects of the Plumbing field
Record-keeping techniques
Health and safety regulations
Ability To
Use a variety of tools and machines utilized in specific trade or trades to which assigned
Work from blue prints, shop drawings and sketches
Work independently with little direction
Plan and organize work
Maintain records of time and service performed
Perform other skilled maintenance duties as assigned
Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action
Understand and follow oral and written directions
Perform heavy manual labor
Operate a truck, observing legal and defensive driving practices.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent and three years of experience in in a plumbing trade.

Valid California driver’s license
Physical Abilities
Sitting, standing and walking up to 8 hours per day; bending at the waist; crawling, kneeling, stooping, squatting or crouching while working; climbing ladders and stairs; walking over rough or uneven surfaces; ability to hear and speak to exchange information/training material; adequate eyesight to perform tasks and drive vehicles; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate specialized hand and power tools and equipment; reaching and working horizontally, above the shoulders and overhead, up to 25 lbs.
HAZARDS:
Work around grease, glues, and other materials used in the building trades.
Solvents, chemicals, and glues.
Exposure possible with bacteria, mold and mildew.
Working at heights
Environment
Indoor and outdoor work environment; work in all weather and temperature conditions; work in confined spaces; occasional exposure to fumes, chemicals, dust and odors; subject to driving a vehicle to conduct work
Hiring Range $25 to $29.00 per hour
