Job Summary

 

This position represents a dual level posting and will be filled as an Associate Industrial Plumber or next highest level.  The hiring manager will determine the job level based on the skills, experience, and qualifications of the selected candidate.
 


What you will be doing :

 

  • The successful candidate for the Associate Industrial Plumber position will assist with and learn installation of pipes, fittings and fixtures for domestic water, heating, gas, and air and drainage systems.
  • This includes, but not limited to; restroom fixtures, dishwashers, water heaters, water softeners, tanks, lab equipment, farm equipment, sprinkler, irrigation systems, fountains, pumps, air, gas and water mains, sewer systems, chilled water supply and return lines, sewer camera and temporary potable water supply etc.
  • Disassemble units or piping, inspect, troubleshoot, replace, and repair regulators, steam traps, valves, gaskets, springs, pipe sections. Perform the following; cutting, bending, threading, flaring of pipe or tubing, welding, braze and soldering. Install elbows, couplings, gaskets, valves, etc.
  • Perform the following as well; anchoring piping and testing new equipment for proper operations.
  • Repair piping systems, including hydronic, stills, boilers, heaters, radiators, dishwashers, autoclaves, steam cookers, instantaneous water heaters and air compressors.
  • Perform all above tasks under the guidance of a SK2 Career Stream level, Industrial Plumber.

What you must have:

 

Associate Industrial Plumber

 

Required:

High school diploma/GED
Experience in Steam System Repair and Residential, Commercial or Municipal plumbing desired
Able to train, learn and perform towards the goal of advanced level plumber
Knowledge of plumbing hand tools, power equipment including but not limited to threaders, drain cleaning equipment
Strong mechanical aptitude with good oral and written communications
Assist with installation, maintenance, repairs and troubleshooting of various piping systems and auxiliary equipment
Ability to lift and carry 25 to 50 lbs. frequently and up to 60 lbs. occasionally
Steel toe safety shoes are required during all working hours
A valid US or Canadian driver's license

 

Preferred:

Cross Connection (backflow) certification 
Three years of Steam System Repair and Residential, Commercial or Municipal plumbing
Able to train, learn and perform to continue education

 

Industrial Plumber

The successful candidate for the Industrial Plumber position will install, maintain and repair all domestic potable and sanitary piping systems.  Install, maintain and repair all processes piping systems  such as; chilled water, steam, air and gas systems, high and low pressure steam lines, heating systems, air compressors, pneumatic controls, etc.  Maintain, troubleshoot and repair piping systems including valves, gaskets, controls, pipe sections etc.  Work independently and with the guidance of Crew Chief or Supervisor if needed. Refer to blueprints, schematics, manufacturer instructions/guidelines and verbal instruction to install piping systems, controls, etc.  Utilize computer skills and appropriate software for work orders, purchase orders and communication with customers.  Assist with the training of lower level industrial plumbers. 


Required:

High School Diploma or GED
Three years' Steam System Repair and Residential, Commercial or Municipal plumbing
Strong mechanical aptitude with good oral and written communications
Able to train, learn and perform to continue education
Assist with installation, maintenance, repairs and troubleshooting of various piping systems and auxiliary equipment
Knowledge of plumbing hand tools, power equipment including but not limited to threaders, drain cleaning equipment
May require working in adverse weather conditions, confined spaces and heights
Must adhere to Purdue University safety procedures and training.
Ability to lift and carry 25 to 50 lbs. frequently and up to 60 lbs. occasionally  
Steel toe safety shoes are required during all working hours
A valid US or Canadian driver's license
