Department Summary
Infrastructure Services provides flexible, reliable, and secure traditional and cloud infrastructure services (network services, platform services, data center operations and management, and unified communications) enabling connectivity, productivity, and security for UCLA. Infrastructure services strives to optimize performance increasing storage, elevating the network, and reducing downtown.Platform Services enables hybrid cloud for computing, storage, and services environments with a mix of on-premises infrastructure, private cloud services, and public cloud. This team creates seamless orchestration across various platforms to stimulate agility, scalability, reliability, and lower infrastructure costs. This allows for applications and components to interoperate across boundaries improving developer productivity as well as regulatory compliance and security. Platform Services oversees provisioning, hosting, and administration of physical and virtual servers and related storage. They maintain and provision core storage capabilities such as server storage and database backups.
Position Summary

The Platform Engineer will play a key role in enabling the university's "cloud-first" strategy by designing, implementing, and managing the university's cloud- based infrastructure and services. This role's day-to-day work will involve a range of responsibilities, from architecture and provisioning to monitoring, troubleshooting, and ongoing optimization, ensuring that the university's cloud environment is secure, efficient, and effective. The Platform Engineer will positively impact UCLA's operations and culture by ensuring UCLA's IT infrastructure is operable, secure, efficient, and effective in service of the university's academic mission. This team member will advance the University's mission by delivering exceptional information technology services comprehensively and consistently across faculty, staff, and students. This role will execute UCLA's vision while modeling UCLA's culture and values.


Salary & Compensation
*UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common. Qualifications
  • Five years Experience working in one or more of the following fields: information technology or network operations. (Required)
  • Strong experience with designing, implementing, and managing cloud-based infrastructure and services, preferably with AWS, Azure, or GCP. (Required)
  • Experience with automation and infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools, such as CloudFormation, ARM templates, or Terraform. (Required)
  • Seven or more years Experience working in one or more of the following fields: information technology or network operations. (Preferred)
  • Experience in complex higher education environments,serving academic and administrative functions of a large public university. (Preferred)
  • Knowledge of cloud computing concepts, architectures, and best practices, including IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS. (Required)
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices, including CI/CD, version control, and automated testing. (Required)
  • Knowledge of cloud security concepts and best practices, including identity and access management (IAM), encryption, network security, and monitoring. (Required)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and is able to communicate complex technical ideas to a diverse community of colleagues and stakeholders. Can relay technical information to audiences of technical and non-technical stakeholders. (Required)
  • Able to establish and advance positive working relationships and a strong rapport with a diverse community of colleagues including team members, stakeholders, and customers. (Required)
  • Advanced organizational skills, ability to balance priorities, deliver concurrent projects to various stakeholders. Ability to work in a project-based environment using project management practices. (Required)

  • Bachelor's Degree Computer science, engineering, computer information systems, or a related field, or equivalent combination of experience/training. (Required)
  • Bachelor's Degree Computer science, engineering, computer information systems. (Preferred)
  • Relevant cloud certifications, such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect, or Google Cloud Certified - Professional Cloud Architect. (Preferred)

  • Special Conditions for Employment
    • This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that includes regular visits to campus as needed (for those who work remotely, travel/lodging expenses are not eligible for reimbursement).

      The anticipated pay range for this position is $143,772-$159,737, annually; salary is dependent upon the skills and experience of the selected finalist.
